Greg is a European and Chartered (UK) Patent Attorney, and a UPC Representative.
He has extensive experience, of working inhouse, in investing in an IP position by managing portfolio development, and reviewing and mitigating patent risk, for optimal commercial outcomes – a practice that the UPC has made ever more relevant for businesses active in Europe.
He founded Greg Corcoran IP in 2025 to assist clients to achieve their commercial objectives in advising their strategic investment in their IP position – mitigating patent risk and optimising the patent portfolio for their commercial goals.
After qualifying with a leading firm in London, he moved inhouse in the Netherlands at a leading semiconductor equipment supplier.
In his in-house practice he prepared for, and supported, cross-licence renegotiations with a competitor which involved litigation and concluded with a new licence. The multi-jurisdictional litigation involved defence, offence and discovery in several countries. Post settlement in 2029, he continued to develop patent portfolio improvement strategies establishing a new portfolio for a new product in new markets which included repurposing an acquired patent portfolio.
Greg Corcoran IP has a fractional inhouse and consultancy offerings that apply Greg’s long experience in liaising with corporate stakeholders. This includes assisting the integration of a new department from an acquired business into a company’s IP processes.
Greg is active in various professional organisations such as CIPA, IPO, LES, taking on speaking roles and writing articles (see linked references to some recent publications below). He is also a co-editor of CIPA’s Guide to the Patents Act, a fundamental textbook for UK patent practitioners.
